The role of the Organizations Clinic Unit in a medical intensive care organizational change

Abstract


The aim of this paper is to highlight a psycho - sociological consulting process planned and carried out by the Organizations Clinic Unit with a medical Intensive Care Unit (ICU), both at the Florence University Teaching Hospital of Careggi (AOUC). The consulting intervention/process started as a need of the whole medical intensive care unit staff throughout an organizational change and the transition from closed ICU format to the open one. An organizational change strongly supported from the Tuscany Regional Bioethics Commission. The Organizations Clinic Unit intervention, here described, was structured in consecutive steps which included a specific training path for the whole ICU staff.  In conclusion, some reflections on this peculiar organizational change and some proposals regarding actions that could be carried out to face it.
