Abstract

The article presents the activities of a psychological help-desk for young patients suffering from multiple sclerosis and their families within a neurology hospital clinic. The article introduces the modelization of the service in terms of the specific modalities of provision and the psychological functions (emotional regulation, cognitive regulation and social regulation) which it promotes. They are discussed in the light of two cogent and current psychosocial issues affecting health psychology: a) promoting the development and autonomy of patients in chronic conditions; and b) the recognition of the relevance of the healthcare relationship, rather than the exclusive centering on the patient. Finally, the story of a young patient is presented as an example of the proposed model.
